PERMITS

Non-commercial productions do not require a permit per FILM LA (Unincorporated LA COUNTY). It is the responsibility of the producer to secure filming permits; commercially shooting without a permit puts you at risk of being non-compliant with The City of Los Angeles and the LAPD Contract Services FIlm Unit. Please contact FILM LA to see if your production requires a permit. Malibu Canyon Ranch is private property, with onsite parking.

We are considered Unincorporated LA County, not Calabasas as our mailing address suggests. Please do not submit permit applications through Malibu or Calabasas cities, they will not be valid!

What are the rates?

Permits can start at $25 for student projects. “It boils down to how complicated your permit is, like if you’re closing down a street or setting something on fire.” The non-student cost for a production permit, at a minimum, would start at $740. Please take note of this when considering your budget.
